About This Study

What is Type 2 Diabetes?

Type 2 Diabetes is a chronic condition where the body either resists the effects of insulin—a hormone that regulates sugar—or doesn't produce enough insulin to maintain normal glucose levels. This leads to elevated blood sugar levels, which can cause various health issues over time, including heart disease, nerve damage, and vision problems. It's often associated with obesity and a sedentary lifestyle but can also be influenced by genetics. To learn more about type 2 diabetes, click here.

What is Neuropathy?

Neuropathy, also known as peripheral neuropathy, refers to damage or dysfunction of the peripheral nerves, which connect the brain and spinal cord to the rest of the body. This condition disrupts normal nerve signaling and may result from diabetes, infections, injuries, or other underlying causes. To learn more about neuropathy, click here.

This is a joint neurology and internal medicine clinical trial.

What is Neurology?

Neurology is the branch of medicine focused on disorders of the nervous system, including the brain, spinal cord, and nerves. Neurologists diagnose and treat conditions such as chronic migraines, pediatric migraines, epilepsy, Parkinson's disease, and multiple sclerosis. To learn more about neurology, click here.

What is Internal Medicine?

Internal medicine is a branch of medicine focused on the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of adult diseases. Internists, or physicians specializing in internal medicine, manage a wide range of conditions affecting various organ systems, providing comprehensive care for chronic illnesses and complex medical issues.
